6-8 WeeksOhio will participate in the interstate Social Work Licensure Compact starting in 2025, allowing licensed social workers to practice across participating states with a multi-state license. This greatly increases mobility for Ohio social workers.
To supervise LSWs seeking LISW licensure, you need the LISW-S (supervisor) designation. This is a special credential beyond the basic LISW license that requires additional training and experience.
Ohio changed its LISW requirements in 2016. You must now complete a minimum of 2 years post-MSW and post-LSW experience before applying for LISW, regardless of how quickly you accumulate clinical hours.
Ohio accepts BSW, MSW, or Doctoral degrees for LSW licensure - one of the few states to accept bachelor's level for this credential. However, LISW requires master's or higher.
Ohio uses the eLicense system for all applications. You'll need to create a User ID and password to access the online portal for applications, renewals, and license management.
