3 Years + 6-8 WeeksGeorgia requires a master's degree for all licensed social work practice. Unlike most states, Georgia does not offer a bachelor's level license (LBSW). You must complete an MSW to become licensed.
You can pursue LCSW directly without first obtaining LMSW. However, the Georgia Society for Clinical Social Work recommends getting LMSW first as a stepping stone and for career flexibility.
Holders of MSW + Doctoral degrees in related fields (MFT, Professional Counseling, Medicine, Applied Psychology, etc.) can qualify for LCSW with only 2,000 hours instead of 3,000 hours of supervised experience.
Georgia does not offer license reciprocity with other states. Out-of-state licensees must apply for "license by exam waiver" if they've passed the appropriate ASWB exam, but must still meet all Georgia requirements.
All Georgia social work licenses expire on September 30 of even-numbered years. Renewal period is during October, with late renewals costing $150 instead of $100.
Georgia requires 35 CE hours every 2 years, including 5 hours in ethics. Acceptable formats include academic coursework, independent study, and synchronous online webinars. Keep documentation for audits.
